Steel Drums in the Sun: Plan a Trip to Jamaica’s Reggae Sumfest

If you love the Caribbean and its distinctive sound of the steel drums, why not consider planning a trip to Montego Bay in July, so you can take part in the world’s best Caribbean music festival;  the annual Reggae Sumfest.

Reggae music was invented here in the green mountains of Jamaica.  Mixing the musical traditions of Mento and rocksteady with the American sounds of soul in the 1970s, Jamaica’s gift to the world has been the reggae greats of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff.

Every summer, Montego Bay plays hosts to a truly incredible celebration of its rich musical legacy. Reggae Sumfest is the largest music festival in Jamaica, and it is one of the largest celebrations of reggae music in the entire world.

The festival started in the early 1990s and has attracted some of the biggest names in music since that time, from reggae greats such as Damien Marley to international superstars including Usher and Rihanna.

Every day of Reggae Sumfest features a different style of music, from dancehall to rap. There are beach parties, great food and lots and lots of dancing.

Book a Jamaica villa rental for July so you can be part of the festivities.  The Tryall Club is a gorgeous private retreat located on one of the island’s best golf courses.  It’s also just 12 miles west of Montego Bay, where you can hear the world’s best reggae music here on the island that inspired its soothing sounds and incredible rhythms.
